Prior Notes

We usually install a frame around the perimeter of the area to be lawned using treated timber, composite battens or Vertedge (a purpose-made material for edging artificial lawns) however this is not always critical and will depend on budget and the area being turfed. We would be happy to discuss with the client how they should best DIY their garden on every project.

You can skip the subbase (step 3) layer depending on the ground but we usually have a subbase and base layer.

There may be a time when you need a stabalising membrane when the earth and turf is taken up. This could be due to stubborn weeds (dandelions etc) that will grow with no light and can push through the stone and push up the membrane creating bumps in the surface.

They will not be able to get through the grass but they will create a lumpy surface. A stabilising membrane may also be advisable on areas of ground which are boggy. It means once you put this down when you add the stone it doesn’t embed into the earth. The membrane will act as a stabilising barrier.
